It's easy to get just the right size & style collar for your pup!
Collar Size
The best way to measure for your dog's collar is to take off the current collar and lay it by a ruler (take a look at the photo).
Next, place the female end of the buckle at the beginning of the ruler (far left in this photo) and measure across, stopping just before the 'teeth' that get inserted into the other end. This collar measures about 15 1/2".
You may also wrap a soft tape measure around his/her neck, leaving your 2 fingers in between the tape measure and the neck. Measure where the collar typically sits on the neck. If you don't have a soft tape measure, use a piece of string or yarn, and measure it against a ruler.

Width
Collars come in Standard widths, or you can choose your own size/width combo in the Build Your Own section of Collars. Collars are available in 5/8", 3/4", 1", 1.5", and 2" widths.
Not sure which width to get? Cut a strip of paper in the width you are considering and wrap it around your dog's neck. Keep in mind that wider collars show up better, but you don't want it to look like the dog wearing a turtleneck.

Buckle Types
Black Buckle
Collars clasp with a black, plastic, contoured, easy-release buckle.
These classic collars are perfect for small dogs, dogs that don't pull much when on a leash, and dogs that wear another type of collar/harness for walking.
Chrome Buckle
Collars clasp with a metal easy-release buckle. They have a nickel-plated finish with a Stainless steel pin and spring.
These are recommended for dogs that like the chrome look and strong dogs that pull when on a leash.
A layer of polypropylene webbing is added for strength.
Martingale
Collars are used as training collars and are the best collars for dogs whose heads are smaller than their necks.
Prevents dogs from being able to back out of their collar.
They are made with a chain for the tightening loop (see photo).
Martingales with a fabric loop are also available (but not in the photo).
A layer of polypropylene webbing is added for strength.

Digger and Daragh
These greyhound brothers are perfect examples of dogs that wear martingale collars. See how small their heads are compared to their necks? If they were wearing regular buckle collars instead of martingales, they would be able to back right out of their collars. Martingales keep them looking good & also secure.

All collars are adjustable and cover a pretty wide range, so an exact measurement is not critical. Please feel free to contact us if you're not sure which size to order - we're happy to help!
